Summer Internship Program – Project Engineer

Project Engineer - Champaign, IL
Wells and Wells Construction Co, Inc is seeking a Summer Intern Project Engineer to assist our project management staff. We have numerous projects under contract/construction and a large backlog of upcoming projects. We have been in business for 30 years and growing rapidly with our current client base in the Champaign-Urbana area as well as nationally. Our main line of work is multi-family housing, however we are involved in the commercial construction sector as well.
Job Responsibilities/Duties:
- Maintain all project drawings and specifications. Distribute plan revisions to project team. Update Procore plan room and server plan folder.
- Review and process project submittals and shop drawings. Coordinate with W&W team, architect and subcontractors to distribute documents and diligently track progress through approval status.
- Submit and distribute all RFI’s. Track RFI process through final response.
- Assist project manager with issuance of purchase orders, subcontract scopes and subcontractor change orders.
- Distribute meeting agendas and meeting minutes for all design and project coordination meetings.
- Establish subcontractor meeting agenda with Superintendent. Take notes and issue meeting minutes to all attendees and W&W project team.
- Punchlist coordination – generate initial punchlists and oversee completion.
- Track all field changes on as-built set of drawings in the field. Prepare final as-built drawings at the end of project for submittal with close-out documentation.
- Know and understand project management software for daily use to track, corresponding and report on various job functions.
- Assist project manager with development of project schedule and updating during course of project.
Education/Experience:
- BS or MS in Engineering or Construction Management
- 2 or more years of experience or equivalent combination of education or experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to organize, plan and manage multiple activities.
- Strong written and verbal skills
- Ability to work in a team-based environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs. Knowledge of Microsoft Project helpful

Project Manager – Champaign, IL
Wells and Wells Construction Co, Inc is seeking a Full Time Project Manager to join our team. We have numerous projects under contract/construction and a large backlog of upcoming projects. We have been in business for 30 years and growing rapidly with our current client base in the Champaign-Urbana area as well as nationally. Our main line of work is multi-family housing, however we are involved in the commercial construction sector as well.
- Acts as CEO of the project / project team.
- PM will be the main point of contact between the owner representative and W&W.
- Prepare owner contract and required contract exhibits.
- Prepare all necessary preconstruction documents i.e. bids, proposals, instructions to bidders, estimates etc. Ensure subs have a clear understanding of scope to bid.
- Obtain and qualify subcontractors for project bidding (goal to have at least 3 qualified bidders in each category).
- Develop Subcontractor scope of works to be issued on subcontracts. Do not attached subs proposals as part of the subcontract scope of work only.
- Manage Change Orders, RFI’s, Submittals, Notices to Subs, Coordinating the Design Build Team Disciplines.
- Manage Quality Control of drawing documents during the design –build process and document control during the project. I.E. ASI, Revisions etc.
- Manage overall Project Schedule ensuring that Milestone dates are being met.
- Manage overall budget ensuring that project meets profit projections and owner’s budgetary goals.
- Conduct Design and Owner coordination meetings during design, bidding and construction phase.
- Prepare monthly pay applications for owner payment. Forward to accounting for final review and distribution.
- Train Project/Field Engineers.
Education/Experience:
- BS or MS in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or similar degree
- 8 or more years of experience in the construction industry
- 4 or more years of experience as a Project Manager or similar role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to organize, plan and manage multiple activities.

- Ability to work in a team-based environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs. Knowledge of Microsoft Project helpful
